NORTHWOOD MAN KILLED IN ITALY
Pfc. Orin Groe Leaves Parents, One Brother
Northwood -- Mr. and Mrs. T.O. Groe received a telegram from the war department stating their son, Pfc. Orin T. Groe, better known as Ted, was killed Sept. 16 in Italy.
He was born in Northwood Aug 15, 1912. He was inducted into the army June 9, 1942. He had lived his entire life in the community. He was a graduate of the Northwood high school and Mason City Junior college. He served as assistant scoutmaster for several years.
Besides his parents he leaves a younger brother, Lt. Irl Groe, who is stationed at Hollywood, Fla., in convoy duty with the navy.

Oren Telford (Ted) Groe was born Aug. 15, 1912 to Thorsten O. and Lillian Gunvor Ringham Groe. He died Sept. 16, 1944 and is buried in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, IA.
Pvt. Groe served with the U.S. Army 362nd Infantry in World War II.
