Walter Enos Greenley

 

 

Joseph R. and Pearl Urich Greenley were the parents of three sons serving in World War II:

Melvin Maynard Greenley was born Aug. 28, 1921. He died Feb. 27, 1997 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Sgt. Greenley served with the Co. E, 133rd Infantry, 34th “Red Bull” Division U.S. Army in World War II.

Cecil Floyd Greenley was born Sept. 3, 1919. He died Apr. 13, 1992 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Sgt. Greenley served with the U.S. Army in World War II in the 104th Timberwolf Division.

Walter Enos Greenley was born Feb. 4, 1915. He died Dec. 5, 2001 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Walter served with the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was an aaviation metalsmith in the Naval Air Corps.

His Obituary:

Walter Greenley, 86, Webster City, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001 at Trinity Regional Hospital. Burial of cremains will be 9:30 a.m. Monday in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #191. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Asbury United Mehodist Church with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Gundeson Funeral Home and Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Juditn and Ronald McKinney of Virginia Beach, Va., two grandchildren, Mark and wife Jennifer Epley, Richmond, Va., and one great-grandson, Benjamin Epley. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jennie; his parents, three brothers, Cecil, Melvin and Frank, and three sisters, VIola Butler, Blanche Hatt and Nova Fisher.

Walter Enos Greenley, son of Joseph and Pearl Urich Greenley was born Feb. 4, 1915 in Webster City. At the age of one, he moved to LeMars, later returning to Webster City in 1926. He graduated from Webster City High School in 1933. And then attended Webster City Junior College and later Hanphill Diesel School in Chicago. He volunteered during WWII, serving in the American and Asiatic Pacific Theaters as an aviation metalsmith in the Naval Air Corps. He worked as an auto body repairman and auto mechanic for many years, and then entered the construction trades. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 12 years as a carpenter in the Webster City School Maintenance. He married Jennie Koop on Oct. 10, 1935 and she died Nov. 18, 1997.

Walter was an avid hunter and outdoors man. He built beautiful hardwood furniture and also enjoyed refinishing furniture with his wife.

He was a member of Asbury Methodist Church, American Legion Post #191, a charter member of the Boone Valley Izaak Walton Club, and a life member of the National Rifle Association.
