Charles Edward Gist was born Feb. 1, 1925 to Harry J. and Minnie Haskins Gist. He died Sept. 27, 1944 and was buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium. On Jan. 5, 1948 his body was re-interred in the Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, IA.
Sgt. Gist was serving with the U.S. Army Infantry at the time of his death. He was first reported MIA and later KIA in Germany.
