John Robert Gatton was born Feb. 5, 1917 to Jesse and Anna Brady Gatton. He died Apr 20, 1945 and is buried in Saint Marys Cemetery, Waverly, IA.
Pvt. Gatton served with the U.S. Army 106th Infantry in World War II. He was stationed in Hawaii and later participated in the Saipan invasion, where he was seriously wounded and received the Purple Heart. Following his recovery he was in the south Pacific and Okinawa where he was fatally wounded in the Battle of Okinawa.
