George Haverkamp has taken considerable trouble with a neat service roll now hanging in his café and starred with many of the young men who frequented his place before the war. In Army Air Corps
Lester Foreman, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Foreman who live near Sioux Center, is in the Army Air Corps located at Maxwell Field, Ala. He took a course in flying at LeMars before going into the regular army. Lester will learn t fly the bomber type of plane after he finished the training course he is now taking. LUBBERS – FOREMAN
Miss Ruth Jean Lubbers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lubbers of Orange City was married to J. Lester Foreman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Foreman of Orange City, Saturday Nov. 7 at 6:30 p. m. in the Chapel at Maxwell Field, Ala. The bride was given in marriage by Lt. W. M. Gregg with Rev. Stafford, army Chaplain reading the single ring service. The bride was attractive in a white satin gown with long sleeves, lace yoke, tucked bodice and short train. The finger-tip veil was caught in a wreath of gardenias. She carried a bouquet of white roses, carnations and chrysanthemums.
The bridegroom was attired in his army uniform. The bridesmaid, Mrs. Marvin Grotewold of Larchwood, Iowa, wore a blue floor length dress and carried a bouquet of pink carnations and chrysanthemums. The best man, Marvin Grotewold formerly of Larchwood but now of Sq. H Group 2, Maxwell Field, was also in uniform. After the ceremony they passed under the traditional crossed sabers, held by the men of H-2.

Lester Foreman received his 2nd Lieutenant’s commission at Albany, Georgia on May 29th. He has had almost two years of training in flying, having taken a year at the LeMars Airport before he entered the service last August. Lester taught at the Center Township school No. 6 before he went into the service. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Foreman living four miles east of Sioux Center. He had a ten-day furlough after receiving his wings, which he spent at home, leaving again last Monday for a new location at Monroe, Louisiana, where he will pilot planes at a Navigator’s School.

LT. LESTER FOREMAN
Lt. Lester Foreman, also a son of George Foreman, enlisted in the Air Corps two years ago. He received most of his training in Louisiana and is now in Kansas. He has been with the Instruction group for some time and expects to go across soon. He is flying a B24. Lester’s address is: Lt. Lester Foreman, Box 343 Class 44-I, L.A.A.F., Liberal, Kansas.
PVT. DONALD G. FOREMAN
Pvt. Donald G. Foreman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Foreman of Orange City entered the service in May, 1944 and received his training in Camp Roberts, Calif. He is with the infantry. He had one furlough in July when his brother a flier was also home, and shortly after that went overseas. Donald and Donald Brommer were together in Texas before leaving for overseas, but haven’t found one another since then. At present Donald is somewhere in Germany on the Western Front. His address is on file at the News Office.

2nd Lt. J. Lester Foreman, former school teacher near Sioux Center, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Foreman of Orange City was recently home on a furlough from Liberal, Kan. He left for Lemoore Field, Cal. at the expiration of his furlough, to pick up his crew and complete the last three phases of combat training before going overseas. He is a pilot of a B-24. His brother Donald (Sgt.) is now at a rest camp in Belgium, having been with the 99th Division of the 1st Army. He left the states the same time Lawrence Bleeker left.

Jacob Lester Foreman, was born Jan. 4, 1920 at Remsen, Iowa and was living at Orange City, Iowa prior to entering the Army Air Force on April 15, 1942 at Omaha, Nebraska. He received his cadet training at Southeast Training Command, and received his Pilot’s Wings at Turner Field in Albany, Ga. He flew navigation cadets out of Selman Field, Monroe, LA, took B-29 transition training at Liberal, Kansas, and combat training in IV Air Force at March Field in Riverside, Calif. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 12, 1945. His application for bonus pay was filed on May 5, 1949, for which he received $440.00.
