Lionel Everett Filmer was born Aug. 20, 1921 to Joseph W. and Muriel G. Kelley Filmer. He died June 19, 1945 and is buried in Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, IA.
Cpl. Filmer served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps 29th Marines, 6th Marine Division and was KIA in combat operations in the invasion of Okinawa. He was awarded the Silver Star for Conspicuous Gallantry in Action for actions on June 12, 1945.
