Trio from Same Area Brought Together by Pacific Warfare
Having homes in the same part of the country helps to create a bond of interest among fighting men. This rule proved true in the case of Pfc. Neil Whorley of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Cpl. E. Eckliff of Rock Rapids and Pvt. Earl (Bud) Fahey of Sioux City. The men all are mechanics in the First amphibious tractor battalion of the First marine division, now on Okinawa. Whorley and Eckliff have been in the Pacific since early in the war, saw service at Cape Gloucester, Arawae, New Guinea, Pehlin and Okinawa. Fahey, who furnished the picture and report, joined up later, was only in the Okinawa campaign. He is a son of the late Albert Fahey, one time superintendent of street lighting for Sioux City.
