Edwin John Tobias Ernst was born in Grant Township of Guthrie County, Iowa, on July 24, 1910, the son of Peter and Julia Vokt Ernst. He grew up in Guthrie County where he attended rural schools. After his schooling, he farmed before entering the U. S. Army during World War II. On February 11, 1945 he was married to Doris Mueller at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair. They farmed in Grant Township all of their married life. Mr. Ernst was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee for several years and also served on the cemetery board for many years.
Edwin, age 74, was a lifetime resident of the Adair community, and passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 1985 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines following a lingering illness.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, Feb. 20, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair. Interment was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Adair, Iowa.
