Elston Parker Erickson was born June 19, 1919 to Elwin Orian and Olillian Katherine Lunning Erickson. He died Jan. 6, 2013 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell, IA.

Elston served with the U.S. Army in World War II with Headquarters Detachment 498th Quartermaster Battalion.

Obituary:

Elston Erickson, age 93, died at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Bethesda Lutheran in Jewell burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation for Elston was Wednesday evening, January 9, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell.

Elston Parker Erickson was born in Radcliffe on June 19, 1919 to Orian and Olillian (Lunning) Erickson. Elston graduated from Jewell High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On November 4, 1945 Elston married Ruth Bernice Olson at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. He was a lobbyist and inspector for the Iowa Poultry Association where he also served as executive director. Later Elston sold pick-up toppers from border to border in the Midwestern states. Elston was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, playing cards and woodworking.

Elston is survived by his son, Elston (Rick) P. Erickson II, and wife Diana of Jewell; daughter, Rachel Tomiko and husband, Mark of Midland, Michigan; six grandchildren, Elston (Eric) III, Lisa, Christopher, Alex, Aby and Katie; four great grandchildren, Micaiah, Miriam, Tyler and Kia; and a brother, Harold of Missouri.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Ruth in 2003; brothers, Robert and Arling; sister, Opal Hocker; and great granddaughter Savannah Jo Jordan. Following Elston in death was his daughter, Barbara Burnight.
