Omke George Engelkes was born Mar. 22, 1920 to George and Elizabeth Janssen Engelkes. He died Apr. 25, 1945 and is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii and memorialized at Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington, IA.
Pvt. Engelkes served in War II with the 106th Infantry, 27th Infantry Division and died of wounds received in fighting on Okinawa. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.
