RECEIVES AWARD
Pfc. William Earl Dow, who formerly made his home in this community, has been awarded the bronze star for heroic achievement against the enemy at Le Neutral Herman, France. According to the official citation, Private Dow’s tank was stopped by a bazooka, but he stayed with his gun and kept the enemy from knocking out the tanks in front of him. When the tank was hit a second time he dismounted and was captured by German troops in a ditch. However, with quick thinking he was able to outwit his captors and return to his unit. Private Dow is a member of the crew of a tank named “Dizzy,” with the Second armored division in Germany.
