Glenn Louis Donlea was born Jan. 2, 1921 to Frank Lucius and Mae Grace Livingston Donlea. He died Mar. 19, 1945, was buried at sea, and has a cenotaph in Fairview Cemetery, Winthrop, IA. He is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Sgt. Donlea served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps aboard the USS Franklin (CV-13) that was hit by two enemy bombs. The Franklin did not sink but 807 were killed and more than 487 wounded, the highest casualties experienced by any U.S. fleet carrier that survived World War II. He was KIA and buried at sea.
