John Franklin Donahoo was born June 24, 1925 to John Franklin and Hazel Jennie Wyland Donahoo. He died Sept. 10, 1944 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Nettuno, Italy.
Petty Officer Donahoo served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Arcturus (AKA-1) which participated in an amphibious attack on Salerno, Italy. At the time he was lost, he was a member of a boat salvage party conducting salvage operations on an allied tank lighter when that vessel was destroyed by enemy shellfire. He was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
