Iowans In Italy Receive Awards

2nd Lt. John Decker, of Mason City, was promoted from staff sergeant in the 133rd infantry in recognition of his outstanding fighting ability. He has the silver star fro gallantry in action, the combat infantryman badge, two stars on his European theater ribbon and a good conduct medal. Two brothers are overseas: Sgt. Joseph Decker, in the Aleutian Islands and Pfc. Raymond Decker, in the air forces in England.

Commended as One of Crack Air Service Command Team
V-E day found Pfc. Raymond Decker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Decker, 1627 President N.W, on the job, helping ready more combat planes and equipment for immediate action wherever they might be needed, it was stated in a communication received from headquarters of the first base air depot at Warrington, England.
Pfc. Decker was one of the crack air service command team who pitched in to back the air assaults that knocked Germany out of the war, according to the information.
"Every soldier, whatever his job, contributed materially to the magnificent final result," their commanding general had said. "I commend them and I know that whatever their next task, they will fulfill it with credit to themselves and their country.
Pfc. Decker has been overseas since Dec., 1943. He was employed by the Leo P. Carney filling station. He attended Mason City high school.
