Paul DeLong, a student at U.I.U. last year, has enlisted in the army air corps. He has been sent to Wichita Falls, Tex., for training. He is a son of Rev. and Mrs. John DeLong of Charles City, well known in Fayette.

Lt. Paul DeLong, former Upper Iowa student, and son of Rev. and Mrs. John DeLong, Cedar Rapids, visited Friday in the home of his uncle, John Fay, and called on old freinds. Lt. DeLong came form Randolph Field, Tex. Mr. and Mrs. Fay accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. George Fay of Wadena, visited Sunday in the DeLong home in Cedar Rapids.

FORMER GREENE BOY IS KILLED
Lt. Paul DeLong Meets Death in Plane Mishap
Greene -- Word was received at Greene that Lt. Paul DeLong, 22, son of the Rev. and Mrs. John DeLong of Cedar Rapids, was killed Monday evening in an airplane accident in Texas, where he was an instructor in the air corps.
The Rev. DeLong was pastor at Greene before going to a Charles City pastorate, where he served the First Methodist church 4 years before being transferred to Cedar Rapids.
Paul attended high school at Greene and at Charles City.

LIEUTENANT PAUL DELONG KILLED IN AIRPLANE ACCIDENT
Lieutenant Paul George DeLong, 22, a former resident of Greene, was killed in an airplane accident near Lefros, Texas Monday afternoon.
Lieutenant DeLong was an instructor at the advance flying school in Tampa, Texas. He received his wings at Randolph Field last December
He was the son of Rev. and Mrs. John DeLong of Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Mr. DeLong was a pastor of the Methodist church here for two years coming here from Nora Springs. The family moved to Charles City in 1937. Lieutenant DeLong was born in Waterloo and attended the Greene high school during his sophomore and junior years. He also attended Upper Iowa university in Fayette.
Funeral arrangements await word from Texas. Burial will be made in Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his parents, a sister and two brothers.

LIEUT. PAUL DELONG DIES IN PLANE CRASH
Son of Rev. John Delong of Cedar Rapids Was Former Student at Upper Iowa Univ.
Lt. Paul George DeLong, 22 oldest son of Rev. and Mrs. John DeLong of Cedar Rapids, was instantly killed at 5:15 p.m. Monday in an airplane crash, about 15 miles from Pampa, Texas where he had served for several months as an instructor at the air field. His body will be brought to Cedar Rapids, and burial will probably be at Waterloo, the former home of the family.
Paul was born in Waterloo, and lived in Fayette when a small boy. His father was graduated from Upper Iowa University in 1926, and served as an air pilot in World War I for 17 months.
Paul attended U.I.U. for two years, entering as a freshman in '39, and receiving his first flying lessons at the college field. He was affiliated with the A.D.A. After leaving college, he enlisted in the army air cadets and went up through the ranks to be commissioned a lieutenant. In college he was a popular student, active in sports and carried leading parts in college plays.
Besides his parents, he leaves a sister, Dorene, and two brothers, Duane and Jack, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Fay, of Wadena.

RITES AT CEDAR RAPIDS
Charles City -- Internment and services for Lt. Paul DeLong, 22, son of the Rev. and Mrs. John E. DeLong of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Charles City, will take place in Cedar Rapids, where the Rev. DeLong is pastor of Trinity Methodist church. Lieutenant DeLong was killed in an airplane accident near LeFros, Texas, Monday night. He was an instructor at the advance flying school at Tampa, Fla. Lieutenant DeLong had received his wings at Randolph Field last December.
