Lt. Henry J. DeGroot

 

 

 

Henry J. De Groot, now stationed in England met Clarence Peters, Harry Visser, John De Groot (his nephew) and also Miss Coba Schreuder of Doon, an army nurse. It was the first time in 14 months that he has seen anyone from this section. He met Miss Schreuder in a Dutch Reformed Church in England.

Three Orange City young men arrived home with their discharge papers Sunday. They were Pfc. Neal Dykhuis, Pfc. Henry Visser and Lt. Henry J. De Groot.

Henry J. De Groot 37127892 was born in Orange City, Iowa on Sept. 7, 1916, registered with the Selective Service Board at Sioux Falls, SD, and was living at 808 Baldwin, Harlan, Webster County, Iowa, when he was inducted into the army on June 29, 1942 at Fort Crook, Nebraska. He left for overseas duty on Dec. 13, 1942 and returned to the U. S. on Oct. 11, 1945. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 19, 1945. He served with the First Guard Co. U. S. D. B., Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and served overseas with the Counter-Intelligence Corps in England, France and Germany. He served a total of 43 months, 34 of them overseas. His bonus application on May 19, 1949 earned him a $500 bonus for his service.
