Former Resident’s Son Listed Among Wounded
Corporal Gerald Curtis, son of Albert Curtis, formerly of this city but now of Waterloo, has been seriously wounded in action, according to a message to his father from the war department.
Corporal Curtis enlisted in the army, Feb. 4, 1941, and has been with an armored division in North Africa.
The war department’s message stated the soldier was wounded in action on July 12.

CORPORAL CURTIS WATERLOO, DEAD IN NORTH AFRICA
Mrs. Frank Lester of this city has been notified that her brother, Cpl. Gerald Curtis, son of Albert Curtis of Waterloo, died July 12 of wounds received in action in the North African battle zone.
The soldier’s father, who is widely known in the Webster City vicinity having formerly lived here some years ago, received a telegram Aug. 10 that his son had been seriously wounded.
On Aug. 23, however, he received a second telegram stating that his son had died the same day he was wounded.
Corporal Curtis also leaves a wife, who resides at Waterloo, and an uncle, Frank Curtis who lives in this city.

Gerald A. Curtis was born June 20, 1917 to William A and Edna P. Barber Curtis. He died July 13, 1943 and is buried in the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Nettuno, Italy Plot: E Row: 1 Grave: 16.
Cpl. Curtis served with the 66th Regiment, 2nd Armoured Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart, American Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
