Howard Crummer, 76, Webster City, died Thursday, June 17, 1999 at Hamilton Hospital.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Gowrie with Rev. Gary Bird officiating. Burial will be in the Gowrie Township Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Peterson Post 431 of Gowrie. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Monday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.
Survivors are sons Craig Crummer of Carnation, WA, Larry Crummer of Cupertino, CA and Rev. Kim Crummer, Spencer, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a brother Dale Crummer of San Diego, CA, sisters Una Amandus of Gowrie, Ula Machovec of Fort Dodge, Doris Duncan and Donna Lou Bates, both of Treasure Island, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ron and Celinda Colburn Crummer and his wife Bonnie in 1996.
Howard Crummer was born May 2, 1923 in Pocahontas. He graduated from Gowrie High School in 1941. During World War II, he served in the European campaign in the Air Force Mighty Eighth, the 48th Bomb Group of nine members known as the Dirty Deuce. He was the radio operator on the B-17s for 35 missions. In 1944, he married Bonnie Jean Vinchattle at Gowrie. The couple lived at Gowrie until 1958 when they moved to Webster City. In 1967, they moved to Fort Dodge for three years, then returned to Webster City. He operated and owned Crummer Plumbing for several years in Webster City.
He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Webster City. The National Society of Descendants of the Mayflower, and a descendent of Gov. William Bradford.
