George Raymond Colwell, Jr. was born Oct. 30, 1922 to George R. (Sr.) and Florence Leola Cross Colwell. He died Aug. 17, 1945 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City, IA.
Sgt. Colwell served in World War II with the U.S. Army 296th Anti-Aircraft Search Light Division, Battery B and died as a result of third degree burns while in the service of his country on Saipan Island, Marianas Islands.
