HOME ON FURLOUGH
Cpl. Virgil J. H. Coleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Coleman of this city, is home on a 30-day furlough from army duty in Italy, after nearly two years of overseas service.
The Webster City serviceman has three brothers and three brothers-in-law in service. They include: George W. Coleman, QM 1/c, who is now at Norfolk, Va., after a year’s duty in the Pacific; Norval Coleman, MoMM1/c, serving aboard a ship in the Pacific; Pvt. Myrrl Coleman, located at Ft. Snelling, Minn., now after reporting for induction a week ago; Pfc. George Eberhart, reportedly on his way home after being released from a nazi prison camp in which he was held prisoner for nine months; and Donald Yancy, serving with the merchant marine.

Obituary: George W. Coleman
George William Coleman, 55, formerly of Webster City, died at Lowrance hospital at Mooresville, N.C., on Feb. 17, 1969, following a stroke.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the Vanderburg United Methodist church at Vanderburg, N.C., with burial in the Vanderburg United Methodist cemetery. The Rev. Robert Combs officiated.
George W. Coleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Coleman, was born Feb. 15, 1914, in the Blairsburg community. He was graduated from Dows high school in 1932 and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, having been stationed at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
Following seven years in the Navy, he returned to Webster City and farmer in the Webster City and Humboldt communities. The family moved to Moorseville, N.C., in 1952 where he had since resided.
He is survived by two children, Phillip Coleman, not attending ECU at Greenville, N.C., and Mrs. Clyde (Marcia) Slease, III, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; his father, N. H. Coleman of Webster City; four brothers, Norval Coleman of Los Angeles, Virgil Coleman of Webster City, Myrll Coleman of Stanhope, and Richard Coleman, Waycross, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. Albert (Margie) Lamfers, Mont Clair, Calif., Mrs. Elfers (Mary) Trampel of Webster City and Mrs. Alva (Avon) Norem of Burbank, Calif., and one granddaughter, Eleanor Carolyn (Carrie) Slease.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye, Sept. 24, 1967; by his mother, Edna L. Coleman, on Nov. 11, 1948, and an infant sister, Betty.

Daughter Margie Coleman married Albert Wayne Lamfers, U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Pacific aboard the USS Drum (SS-228).
