Six Members of Claude Family in U. S. Armed Forces
With six of their sons in service and another son and daughter engaged in defense work on the west coast, the Charles Claude family is one of the outstanding families in north central Iowa when viewed by any standards of service to the United States.
As if such a record was not enough, Mr. and Mrs. Claude, have decided to move to California and enter defense work at the shipyards at Long Beach, California.
First of the Claude boys to enlist was Pvt. Harold, 27, who has been in uniform for nearly four years and is now serving in Hawaii with a field artillery unit.
Technician Fifth Grade Kenneth, 23, was next to leave for duty, and he, too, has been in uniform for almost four years. He is presently at Camp Cooke, California.
Corporal Lyle, 26, is serving with an engineering battalion in the hotly contested Italian theater. Lyle has been overseas since May.
Private First Class Charles, 21, is presently training at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Private James Claude, 19, has been located in Hawaii for the past six months with an anti-aircraft artillery.
The Claudes’ youngest son, Claire, 18, evidently decided five brothers in the army was too much—so he enlisted in the Navy. He is currently serving in the South Pacific.
Donald Claude, 32, eldest son, is working in the shipyards at Long Beach. Mrs. Frances Hilpipre, the Claudes’ elder daughter, is also working for the shipyard company.
The Claudes’ other daughter, Mrs. Elva Brown is also employed in California, not in defense work, however.
All of the Claudes in uniform as well as those on the home front are buying bonds, Mr. and Mrs. Claude report, and are thus doubly insuring a united nations victory.
