Wilmer Raymond Classon was born July 1, 1923 to Raymond E. and Anna Olson Classon. He died Jan. 30, 1996 and is buried in Homewood Cemetery, Ellsworth, IA.

Wilmer served with the U.S. Naval Air Corps and the U.S. Army in World War II.

Wilmer “Slim” Classon, 72, Story City and a former Ellsworth resident, died Jan. 30, 1996, at Mary Greeley Medical Center of lung cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Mike Herschberger officiating. Burial will be at Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday at Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City. The family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Wilmer Classon, son of Raymond and Anna Olson Classon, was born July 1, 1923, in Fairfield. He resided in Ellsworth until 1985 when he moved to Story City. He worked in plumbing and heating and as a substance abuse counselor. He had also been employed at Ose Hardware since 1985. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy.

He is survived by son, Bill Classon, East Peoria, Ill.; daughters, Carla Vanderheiden, Webster City, Jana Sodders, Ellsworth, JoAnn Mapes, Perry; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, Arle Teigland, Ellsworth; and sister, Theda Hans, Des Moines.

Mr. Classon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, where he had served as custodian. He was also past commander of the American Legion in Ellsworth and past president of AA counselors.
