Pvt. E.V. Church Widow Receives His Purple Heart

Pvt. Earle V. Church, who was killed in action on Okinawa May 4, has been awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, the award being sent to his widow, Mrs. Elaine Church, 515 S. Helen Street, by the war department.

Pvt. Church was serving with the infantry at the time of his death. He had been in service 11 months and went overseas in December 1944. Surviving besides the widow are two children; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Church, 504 S. Rustin Street, two sisters and a brother, all of Sioux City.

Earle Vernon Church was born Nov. 7, 1919 to Roy M. and Mabel Davis Church. He died May 4, 1945 and is buried in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.

Pvt. Church served in World War II with the U.S. Army 306th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division and was KIA on Okinawa.
