John Irvin Carlson was born Feb. 14, 1918 to John P. and Nellie M. Aunspach Carlson. He died May 13, 2002 in Alaska.
Petty Officer Carlson served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Shasta (AE-6) from the Aleutians to Guadalcanal and through Saipan, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the waters off Tokyo, where the vessel carried out her last assignment of re-arming ships in the last days of the bombardments by Fleet units.
