Bertil ‘Bert’ Raymond Carlberg was born Apr. 10, 1918 to Joseph Wilfred ‘Fred’ and Selma Caroline Berglund Carlberg. He die Oct. 10, 1998 and is buried in South Marion Cemetery, Stratford, IA.

Cpl. Carlberg served with the U.S. Army in World War II in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters. He was awarded the Silver and Bronze Battle Star, the Bronze Service Arrowhead and five Overseas Service Bars.

Bertil Carlberg, 80, of 912 Belleville Road in Stratford, Iowa passed away at his home on Saturday morning, October 10, 1998 due to congestive heart failure.

He was born on April 10, 1918 in rural Stratford, Iowa the son of Fred and Selma (Berglund) Carlberg.

On March 3, 1950, he married Donna Gabrielson in Boone, Iowa. Bertil farmed south of Stratford until his retirement.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army for 4 years in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters. He was awarded the Silver and Bronze Battle Star, the Bronze Service Arrowhead and five Overseas Service Bars.

His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Donna of Stratford, Iowa, two daughters and sons-in-law, Gayle and Brent Branzow of Alden, Iowa, Glenda and Lloyd Lee of Ames, Iowa, two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Tina Carlsberg of Stratford, Iowa, leo and Kelli Carlberg of Stratford, Iowa, six grandsons, four granddaughters, two step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandson, nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Tuesday, October 13, 1998 at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa with Rev. Kenneth Hartman officiating.

Internment was in the South Marion Cemetery southeast of Stratford, Iowa. The Fredrick Sonksen Post of Stratford conducted military graveside rites.

The Stark-Welin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
