Leonard Orville Campbell was born Aug. 1, 1920 to Orville L. and Pearl Devereaux Campbell. He died July 1, 2008 and is buried in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo, IA.
Sgt. Campbell served in the U.S. Air Force in the South Pacific, taking part in sea and air rescues during World War II.

Leonard Orville Campbell, 87, of Denver, died Tuesday, July 1, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo.
He was born Aug. 1, 1920, in Charles City, son of Orville L. and Pearl Devereux Campbell. He married Alice Eicher in Dubuque on May 2, 1959.
Mr. Campbell graduated from Stanhope High School, Stanhope, in 1938. He was stationed in the South Pacific as a U.S. Air Force staff sergeant, taking part in sea and air rescues during World War II. He then attended the University of Iowa and earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce. He worked for 38 years for the Social Security Administration and before his retirement serving as a field rep.
Survived by: his wife; two sons, Jeff (Melanie) of Lonsdale, Minn., and Doug (Helen) of Loretto, Minn.; and four grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: a sister, Ruby Swedlund.
Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Denver, with private inurnment in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
