John Theodore Birkestrand was born Feb. 10, 1920 to Albert and Margaret Johnson Birkestrand. He died Nov. 8, 2006 and is buried in Slater Cemetery, Slater, IA.
John served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 340th and 310th Bomb Groups and 427th Night Fighter Squadron.
