James A. Bussey was born Mar. 28, 1923 to Jesse Raymond and Mary E. Eveland Bussey. He died Feb. 18, 1945 and is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bussey, IA.
Lt. Bussey served in World War II with the 383rd Fighter Squadron, 364th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force. He was a pilot on a P-51 “Mustang” fighter plane based in England and had flown 57 combat missions over Germany, France, Belgium and Holland. He was KIA over Heluestedt, Germany while strafing a train. He was awarded the Air Medal with five silver oak leaf clusters, the Presidential Unit Citation E.T.O., 3 bronze stars and the Purple Heart.
