Robert L. Burton, 76, Webster City, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Des Moines. He was cremated and the memorial services will be held at the Foster Funeral Home May 11 at 7 p.m. with Rev. Marshall Hoffmann officiating. His ashes will be buried at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. The family will be at the funeral home one hour before the service.
Robert Lyle Burton, son of Harold and Lucile Smith Burton, was born December 22, 1922 at Webster City. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City. In 1943, he joined the U.S. Army, serving worldwide. During W. W. II, he served with a tank destroyer force and also served during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Army Service Ribbon, Army Lapel Button, Overseas Service Ribbon, Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, 3rd Award, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Expert Marksmanship Badge Rifle (M-16) and U.S. Army Recruiter Badge. He retired from active duty at the Pentagon, Washington, DC in 1983 as a Master Sergeant. He was recalled to active duty in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm in 1991.
Survivors are his daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Robert Bruno of San Mateo, CA, JoDee and Jeffery Massanan, Oakland, CA, granddaughter Natasha Markoff and great-granddaughter Genessa Hudson, both of San Mateo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Keith Burton. He was a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars of Fort Dodge.
