George Burkett Dies Suddenly
George A. Burkett, 38, a former Webster City police officer, died suddenly Saturday evening at his home in Eagle Grove. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church with Rt. Rev. Msgr. A. A. Halbach officiating and with burial in the Calvary Catholic cemetery here with military services at graveside.
Rosary will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral Home.
George Arthur Burkett was born Sept. 1, 1926, at Blairsburg. He was reared and educated in the Blairsburg community. He entered the Navy and served during World War II and also in the Korean Conflict.
Following his discharge, he returned to this community. He was united in marriage Dec. 28, 1953, to Frances Fugate, and the couple resided in Webster City where Mr. Burkett was employed on the police force for 10 years.
He resigned from the force five months ago to accept a position as safety supervisor for the Ellsworth Freight Lines at Eagle Grove, and the family had lived there since.
He is survived by his wife; three sons and one daughter: William, Michael, Joseph and Linda, all at home and one brother, Roy Burkett.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Mr. Burkett was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church and also of the American Legion.
