Cpl. Carl H. Burgin and Pfc. James S. Fye, both of this city, have received their honorably discharges from the armed forces. Both men were discharged at the separation center at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., according to an Associated Press dispatch.

Carl Henry Burgin was born Dec. 26, 1919 to William Edward ‘Edward’ and Guendola Bernice ‘Guen’ Cox Burgin. He died Dec. 20, 2009 and is buried in the Numa Cemetery, Numa, IA.
Cpl. Burgin served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Carl Burgin, 89, Centerville
Carl Burgin, age 89, of Centerville, passed away at his home on Sunday Dec. 20, 2009.
Carl was born December 26, 1919, the son of William and Guendola (Cox) Burgin in Iowa Falls. He married Eleanor Murphy on November 29, 1941, in Williams.
Carl is survived by his wife; five children, Judy Rush of Des Moines, Terry (Barbara) Burgin of Santa Anna, Calif., Dennis (Carole) Burgin of Numa, Jim Burgin of Centerville, and Vicky (Month) Habben of Pleasant Hill; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy McFill of Centerville, Wanda Shaeffer of Portage, Wis., and Sally Bauer of Centerville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LeRoy and Walter Burgin; and an infant brother, Douglas Burgin.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2010 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centerville with Father Dennis Schaab officiating. A visitation will be held Monday at the Lange Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 PM. A memorial has been established in Carl’s name and may be left at or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, IA 52544.
