Dear Ed;
Just a few lines to let you know my change of address so I'll be able to continue receiving the News. My new address is at the end of this letter.
The country here in New Guinea is a change from anything I have ever seen. The jungle is usually thick. The trees are very tall in fact they make a jeep seem awfully small. The undergrowth is extremely heavy and one has to hack his way through. It does make beautiful scenery. The mountains which surround us are all covered with the jungle. The climate here isn't too bad. It gets hot during the day but it usually cools off enough at night so we can sleep under a blanket. There are plenty of snakes, lizards and insects. The mosquitoes aren't too bad right here.
Our mail doesn't come through too good. We will get a big sack one day and then maybe none for a week. I would just as soon have one or two a day rather than so many at one time. It takes an air mail letter around 3 weeks to reach us.
I can't tell you anything about my work. So there isn't much else to write about.
So I'll close hoping this letter finds you all in the best of health.
Sincerely, Cpl. Lloyd Brown

CPL LLOYD BROWN
Cpl. Lloyd A. Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Brown of Inwood arrived home Friday for his first furlough since he left the states in May, 1943. He is getting acquainted with his young son, Donald Lee, 2, whom he had never seen.
Lloyd served in the air corps Chemical warfare group, whose duty was to be prepared to combat any possible gas attacks through the use of chemicals which would counteract the effect of the poison gas. Fortunately none was used and the chemical group handled fire bombs in the battle areas.
He served in Australia, New Guinea, Netherlands, East Indies, Philippine Islands and Okinawa. He wears five battle stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star.
Lloyd worked on the farm before he was married to the former Lorena Menning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Menning, and says after a good long rest he guesses he will go back to the farm gladly.
