Riley Brooks, 69, Webster City, died Jan. 10, 1997, at Hamilton County Public Hospital in Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Webster City, with Rev. Donald Ripley officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday to 9 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home and prior to the services at the church.
Riley H. Brooks, son of Charles Alvin and Frances Clabaugh Brooks, was born Jan. 21, 1927, in Blairsburg. He attended country schools in the Stratford area and was a graduate of Webster City High School in 1944. He was in the Merchant Marines during World War II and later served with the Air National Guard in Fort Dodge. On Jan. 21, 1949 he married Aurora Hutson in Twin Falls, Idaho. He worked for Webster City Rewind Shop, Morton Food Processing, Beam Industries of Webster City, McCollough Farm Equipment of Webster City, and in the late 60s, he started the Verco Manufacturing Co. in Webster City. He operated that business until 1974. He began the Memorial Marker Co. in Webster City, and he operated it until his death.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Cynthia Mueller, Webster City, Ranee and son-in-law, Stuart Greenfield, Ellsworth; four granddaughters, Lanett Van Vickle, Veronica Hurt and Denise Fortune, all of Webster City, Noelle Runyan, Wichita, Kan.; grandsons, Nicholas Greenfield, Great Falls, Mont, Jonathan Riley, Webster City; seven great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Stewart, Webster City, Melvin, Fort Dodge; sisters, Dorothy Hanson, Augusta, Ga., Retta Ranes, Deland, Fla., Yvonne Prehm, Webster City. He was preceded in death by brother, Randall; one granddaughter; and twin great-granddaughters.
Mr. Brooks was a member of the First Baptist Church, Webster City.
