Orville George Boyd was born Dec. 1, 1927 to George E. and Emma L. Schlafke Boyd. He died Sept. 23, 2008 and is buried in Homewood Cemetery, Ellsworth, IA.

Sgt. Boyd served with the U.S. Army In World War II and Korea and was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal.

Orville Boyd, age 80, Jewell, passed away on September 23, 2008. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2008 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Visitation was held at the church on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Internment took place in the Homewood Cemetery, Ellsworth.

Orville was born and raised in Story City, graduating high school there. He married Ida M. Meyers and together they raised five children. He was an Army veteran of both WWII and the Korean War. He worked as a maintenance engineer at the Belmond Community Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Boyd of Jewell; sons, Michael (Kris) of Jewell, and Kevin (PJ) of Windsor Heights; daughters, Kay (Pat) Kinsella of Duluth, MN, and Kristin (Curt) Perkins of Madrid, IA; son-in-law Frank Thompson of Ellsworth; 16 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, Eldon in AR and Marion in TX; two sisters, Mabel Schroeder in Charles City, IA and Gertrude Dickinson in Jewell; and his aunt, Olive Schlafke in Jewel. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emma (Schlafke) Boyd; daughter Susan; brother Walter; and sister Marjorie.

Memorial may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or his church.

Caldwell Raddatz Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
