Joseph F. Boarts was born Sept. 8, 1921 to Joseph “Joe” and Gertrude Mae Poggenpohl Boarts. He died Aug. 3, 1944 and is buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City, IA.
Cpl. Boarts served in World War II with the U.S. Army 113th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron and was KIA near St. Lo, France when his tank apparently hit a landmine.
