Dean Gilbert Bisher was born Dec. 2, 1915 to Fred L. and Edith V. Bisher. He died Nov. 11, 1944 and is buried in Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial, Epinal, France and has a cenotaph in Fulton Cemetery, Cairo, IA.
Cpl. Bisher served in World War II with the U.S. Army 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division and was KIA in France and awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Cpl. Fisher was in the Intelligence Division of the 2nd Battalion and was moving forward with other members of his section to make necessary observations on an enemy held down, and under attack by our forces. Approaching the forward position from which the observations were to be made he was struck by a fragment of enemy mortar shell and killed instantly.
