William Floyd ‘Bill’ Berleen was born Feb. 19, 1923, Webster City, Iowa, to Floyd Keith and Rosy Cordelia Miller Berleen. He died Mar. 15, 2001 and is buried in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA.

Petty Officer Berleen served with the U.S. Navy in World War II in the South Pacific and was crew chief for the admiral of the 11th naval district in San Diego, CA from 1941 to 1947.

William Floyd Berleen, 78, Canyon Lake, Calif. died March 15, 2001 at his home. Graveside services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Riverside National Cemetery.

William Floyd Berleen, born Feb. 19, 1923, worked as a sales manager for Rawlins Bros. in Los Angeles from 1947 to 1960, and worked as sales/production manager, Steel Services, Inc., Los Angeles for 16 years. He retired in 1984.

Mr. Berleen served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation machinist’s mate first class, and was crew chief for the admiral of the 11th naval district in San Diego, Calif. from June 1941 through December 1947. He served in the South Pacific from March 1942 to 1944.

He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, and was a member of Toastmasters.

Survivors are his wife Betty Berleen, Canyon Lake, Calif., daughter, Jane Berleen, Fullerton, Calif., son, William F. Berleen, Mission Viejo, Calif., brother, Richard Berleen, Webster City, sisters, Mary Nicholson, Violet Berogan and Jessie Nicholson, all of Webster City.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to charities or other organizations, including Ramona Valley Visiting Nurses/Hospice, Hemet, Calif.
