JOINS WAC
Mrs. Orpha L. Bashford, of this city, has successfully qualified and enlisted in the women’s army corps, according to a dispatch from the Iowa WAC recruiting office in Des Moines. Mrs. Bashford’s husband, Cpl. Joseph M. Bashford, is stationed at Kingman, Arizona. Her son, Aviation Cadet Eric W. Hutchison Jr, is taking training at Mission, Texas.

Joseph McCaulley Bashford was born July 18, 1906 to William T. and Margaret ‘Maggie’ Watt Bashford. He died May 25, 1993 and is buried in Ruddick Cemetery, Garfield, AR.
Sgt. Bashford served with the U.S. Army Corps in World War II. He was married to Orpha Balsley Hutchison who served with the WACs.
