Lester Durwin Bakken was born June 13, 1922 to Knut O. and Bertha Christine Haugen Bakken. He died Jan. 22, 1945 and is buried in Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, IA.
Pvt. Bakken served in World War II with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He died in Gereonsweiler, Germany as a result of injuries incurred in an explosion in the company area.
