KILLED IN NAVY AVIATION DUTY
Ex-East Junior Pupil on Bomber Patrol in Philippines
Charles Jay Arnett, aviation ordnance man third class, was killed In action while serving on a patrol bomber in the Philippines.
His brother, Gordon, 3007 Correctionville road, received the notification Tuesday morning from the navy department.
The Sioux Cityan was born November 4, 1919, and attended East junior school. Before his enlistment in July, 1943, he was employed by Albertson & Co. He was sent directly to the Philippines in October, 1944.
Survivors include a son, Dwayne Kaylor Arnett of Sioux City; his mother, Mrs. Ethel Arnett, 2609 Correctionville road; two sisters, Mrs. Lauretta Becker of Le Mars and Mrs. Vivian Blair, 2025 S. Cleveland street, and two brothers who are serving in the armed forces. Lt. Walter E. Arnett is somewhere in Europe and Robert P. Arnett is with the navy in California.

Charles Jay Arnett was born Nov. 4, 1919 to Jay and Ethel Fleming Arnett. He died May 19, 1945 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
Petty Officer Arnett served in World War II with the U.S. Navy at Clark Field on Luzon, Philippine Islands and was MIA/KIA and awarded the Purple Heart.
