Kenneth Laverne Apel was born Oct. 9, 1919 to Emil N. and Bertha M. Knockel Apel. He died June 5, 2005 and is buried in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque, IA.
Col. Apel served in World War II with the U.S. Army 161st Field Artillery Battalion, 35th Infantry Division and was awarded the Bronze Star.
