Williams Man Died at Camp White Saturday
Word has been received here of the death Saturday of Willard Akers, son of Arlie Akers of Williams, at Camp White, near Medford, Ore. Akers had been ill for some time and had undergone his fourth operation at the base hospital there.
Services are pending the arrival there of the young man’s father, who is enroute to Camp White.

MILITARY RITES FOR W. AKERS
Williams—Military services for Willard Akers, soldier in the U. S. army who died Jan. 18 at the base hospital in Camp White Ore., were held Monday afternoon from the Methodist church in Williams. The American legion was in charge. A military escort from Camp White and an honor guard from company F of the Iowa State guard at Webster City were present.
The guard was composed of Lieut. John Whaley, Milo Foster, William Robbins, Vern Lubbers, Lawrence Kayser and C. V. Warren.
Burial was made in the Alden cemetery.
Akers left Williams Oct. 20 as a selectee from Hamilton county and was then sent to Camp White. He had been a patient at the hospital there for several weeks and had undergone four operations.
He is survived by his father, Arlie Akers, who had left Williams Jan. 16 to go to his son, but arrived after he had passed away. His mother preceded him in death.
Several uncles and cousins living in the Alden and Williams communities also survive.

Willard Cleo Akers was born in 1906 to Arlistus ‘Arlie’ and Ida Belle Larsen Akers. He died Jan. 18, 1943 and is buried in the Alden Cemetery, Alden, IA.
He served with the 91st Quartermaster Company.
