Danbury Sailor Is Drowned, Parents Informed by Navy 

Danbury, Ia.-Special: Elzie Ahlwardt, 20, gunner's mate first class of the navy, who had been serving on an L. S. T. in the China area was drowned at sea on August 29, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Ahlwardt of Danbury, were informed by the navy department Saturday. No details of how the drowning occurred were given. A brother, Elmer Ahlwardt, chief warrant officer in the navy, is now in New York city following service in the European theater. Surviving in addition to the parents and the brother are two sisters, Mrs. Ella Custer of Sioux City and Elaine Ahlwardt at home.

Memorial Services at Danbury Today for E. F. Ahlwardt 

Danbury, Ia. Special: Memorial services for Elzie F. Ahlwardt, gunners mate, first class, son of Mrs. E. R. Ahlwardt, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 4 o'clock in the Danbury Methodist church. In change will be Rev. Garner Osborn, the pastor, and Carlson-Frum post of the American Legion. Ahlwardt was drowned August 29 when he fell from a L. S. T. off the Philippines. Shipmates made a futile attempt to save him. His body was recovered and buried on Manila beach.

Elzie Francis Ahlwardt was born Feb. 16, 1925 to Elzie R. and Edna F. Clausen Ahlwardt. He died Aug. 29, 1945 and is buried in Liston Township Cemetery, Danbury, IA. 

Petty Officer Ahlwardt served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.
