Willis Hans Abramson was born Sept. 5, 1911 to August and Bertha Barkema Abramson. He died Oct. 6, 2004 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell, IA.

Pvt. Abramson served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II.

Willis Hans Abramson, 93, died October 6, 2004 in Ames at the Israel Family Hospice House. Memorial services were held Saturday afternoon at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell with Pastor W. Michael Werner officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Becker Funeral Home in Jewell assisted the family with arrangements.

Willis was born September 5, 1911 in Jewell to August and Bertha (Barkema) Abramson. At age 18 he left and rode the rails to Fresno, California to live with his uncle and aunt, Henry and Lizzie Barkema. He worked as a truck driver. Willis served in England and Germans in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He returned to Jewell and married Virginia Wilson of Webster City. They lived in California where Willis was a fire chief and worked for United Air Lines. Willis was a member of the V.F.W.

Willis is survived by a son, Lowell Abramson of Big Lake, Alaska; a step-daughter, Janice (and Vernon) Cook of Port Orchard, Washington; his twin sister, Wilma Hecht of Jewell; a brother, Claude Abramson of Ames; and a special niece, Betty Clark of Ames, who took care of him for two and a half years; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; step daughter, Lexie Wooden; brothers, Sterling Lawrence, and Clifford; and a sister, Jeannette Roe.
