Notes About N.E. Iowans in the Service
FAIRBANK—Cpl. Dale Wierck, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Wierck of Fairbank, was honorably discharged from the Army at Ft. Sheridan, Ill. He had been in the service since November, 1942, and spent 30 months overseas and never had a furlough home. He fought in the Naples-Foggia valley battles. Corporal Wierck received the Good Conduct medal, Purple Heart for wounds received May 12, 1944, a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster for wounds received Feb. 8, 1945. He wears the European, African, Middle Eastern theater ribbon and has four battle stars and five overseas bars. Corporal Wierck was in the armored tank division of the Fifth army.
His brother, Pfc. Henry Wierck, is serving overseas and is now at Colburg, Germany. He entered the service in November, 1944.
