Commander Weaver Ordered to Report to Chicago for Duty
DES MOINES, (AP) – Commander Phillip R. Weaver, Iowa navy recruiting officer who served on a submarine in the first World war, Saturday was ordered to report for duty April 15 at Chicago as inspector of recruiting for the central naval district.
Commander Weaver, recently promoted from Lieutenant commander, has had the Iowa recruiting post since 1940 when he was recalled to active navy duty after his retirement in 1935. With the new assignment, Weaver will be inspector over a 13 state midwest area.
The commander was graduated from the United States Naval academy at Annapolis, Md., in 1914. In his recent second World war service, he won attention by holding the Des Moines recruiting percentage at the top of the list for the district.
Lieut. Truman Jones, who was assigned to the Des Moines area a month ago, will assume charge of the Iowa recruiting work.
