Philip M. Walsh Of Morning Sun Killed in Action

Philip Michael Walsh, S 1/c, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward James Walsh, of Morning Sun, was killed in action, the Navy department revealed in a casualty list issued late Sunday.

The names of 93 more Iowans were included in an army and navy casualty report made public Monday by the Office of War Information.  Twenty are listed as dead, 62 wounded and 11 missing.  The list follows:

Philip Michael Walsh was born Sept. 1, 1921 to Edward James (Sr.) and Mary Catherine Siepmann Walsh. He died Mar 19, 1945 (was buried at sea) and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Petty Officer Walsh served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Franklin (CV-13) and was KIA when that ship was hit in a Japanese air attack.
