PFC. OLIVER WALKER DIES
Former East High Pupil Wounded at Iwo Jima
Pfc. Oliver P. Walker, jr., died March 24 of wounds suffered in action at Iwo Jima, according to a telegram received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Walker, 3117 Laurel avenue, from the Navy department. He was a member of the marine amphibious corps.
Pvt. Walker, born November 29, 1918, attended East high school. He joined the marines December 26, 1941, and was last home on furlough about a year ago.
Survivors include three sisters, Virginia and Marilyn, pupils at East high school, and Mrs. Charlotte Ashton, employed by the War Department at Washington. Two brothers are in the armed forces. Pfc. Kenneth Walker is serving with the army in the Philippines and Walter Walker, ship’s cook second class, is in the Solomons. Both have been overseas two years.

Oliver P. Walker died Mar. 3, 1945 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.
Pvt. Walker served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps and participated in combat operations on Iwo Jima until KIA. He was initially buried in the 5th Marine Division Cemetery on Iwo Jima.
