ROCK VALLEY:
Mrs. Gerrit Vugteveen received a telegram at 10:00 o’clock Saturday morning stating her husband had been seriously wounded in battle in France on July 13th. He received his training at Camp Blanding, Fla., and at Fort George E. Meade, Md.

SOLDIER NEWS.
Mrs. Gerrit H. Vugteveen of Rock Valley was advised by the War Department stating that her husband, Pvt. Gerrit H. Vugteveen had been killed in action on July 3. She had previously received a message to state her husband had been seriously wounded in action. The first message was received August 5. Gerrit H. Vugteveen entered the service November 18, 1943, and received his infantry training at Camp Blanding, Fla. He was home on furlough in April, having left Rock Valley April 8th for Fort George F. Meade, Md. He left for overseas in May and was stationed in England for sometime before being sent into combat in France, not very long before he was killed at Cherbourg, Normandy fighting.

Gerrit H. Vugteveen was born Aug. 8, 1912 to William G. and Susie Post Vugteveen. He died July 13, 1944 and is buried in Saint Marys Cemetery, Rock Valley, IA.
Pvt. Vugteveen served with the U.S. Army 12th Infantry and was KIA at Cherbourg, Normandy, France.
