HOME FROM OVERSEAS
LT. BERNARD VERMEER
Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Vermeer, Mrs. Bernard Vermeer and Mr. Hein VanderSchaaf drove to Omaha, Nebr., on Thursday morning to get Lt. Bernard Vermeer, who arrived home that day to spend a furlough after being overseas since the 6th of May in which time he has fulfilled 35 missions. He was with the 8th Air force and went on bombing missions over Germany.
Lt. Vermeer will be home until the 24th of Dec. and will visit his brother, Lt. Dave Vermeer, who is stationed at El Paso, Texas. Mrs. Vermeer will accompanied her husband when he leaves for his new location as he will report at Santa Monica, Calif.

NEWS OF OUR MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM.
The sons of Mr. and Mrs. Peter E. Vermeer, of Sioux Center, who recently were home on leaves have these new addresses: 2nd Lt. David E. Vermeer, Sec. K, A.A.B., Lincoln, Nebr. Lt. Bernard E. Vermeer, Lockhorne A.A.B., Columbus, Ohio.
Lt. and Mrs. Bernard Vermeer left on Saturday morning for Columbus, Ohio, where Lt. Vermeer will attend an instructors training school for a few months, after spending a week’s furlough at home. Lt. Dave Vermeer, who also spent the past week home on leave left again Sunday morning to report at Lincoln, Nebr.

Bernard Eugene Vermeer was born Nov. 2, 1918 to Peter E. and Rena Borgman Vermeer. He died May 15, 1992 and is buried in Memory Gardens Sioux Center Cemetery, Sioux Center, IA.
Lt. Vermeer served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force as a pilot of a Flying Fortress, flying missions to targets in Germany and German occupied territory. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters.
